Hello, I am out of town and wanted to show a stamp.. but the computer I am on does not have the software for me to save the picture such that I can load to this site.. so a few questions.. as today in 1989 (22nd September) this very talented man died.
Born in Russia, in his leietime he wrote some 1500 songs and was really well recognised in the US.
He wrote for the Ziegfeld Follies and in 1919 he formed his own music-publishing business. In 1921 he became a partner in the construction of the Music Box Theater in New York, and he staged his own popular revues at the theater for several years.
He played and composed in an unconventional manner, using primarily the black keys of a piano fitted with a lever, which shifted the keyboard for automatic transposition. In 1973 he donated the upright piano to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
A GB cover as a prize, if you send me your mailing address please..... to lets say 22nd correct answer.. that gives people in some far off tome zones a chance...
Wil show the commemorative stamp tomorrow.. Enjoy your stamps.. Michael
